A collection of art created by women and artisans in the kitchen by women is set to go on display at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, after the president-elect tweeted that it was a ‘disgusting piece of work’ and suggested that it is part of the ‘pornographic art’ that he’s referring to.
The collection, dubbed the ‘vapecraft cabinet’ by the organizers, features artwork that celebrates ‘female empowerment’ and a large mural depicting Trump with a ‘fucking’ woman.
The women behind the artwork, including the artists’ names and locations, are all men, and are all part of a women-led collective called ‘Vapecraft’, whose members are part of The Art Collective of Women, an activist collective in the Washington DC area.
The Women’s Collective, founded in 2014, is one of the largest, if not the largest feminist art collective in America.
According to the website of the Washington Art Collective, ‘Vapercraft is dedicated to celebrating all aspects of female sexuality, from body and sensuality, to body and life.
It celebrates the power of women and the possibilities of the sexual relationship as a social construct and a tool to connect us all to the universe.’
A portion of the artwork is now on display for the first time.
The group also announced on their Facebook page that they have sold more than $20,000 worth of art.
The ‘Vaping Craft Cabinet’ is a collaboration between the women’s collective, Art Collective for Women, and the DC Women’s Museum, the latter of which is owned by Trump ally Artem Prokop.
The men behind the project are named ‘Vader’ and ‘Sgt. K’ who are both veterans of the US Army and are pictured on the back of the cabinet.
Both men have served in the military and were veterans of combat operations.
The art installation, which was created by the DC women’s museum, is part and parcel of a series of art exhibits that are currently being curated at the DC Museum.
The first of these, ‘A Different View’, will be at the museum in late November.
The second, ‘Women of Power’, will open in the spring.
‘Vaporcraft cabinet’, which is located at the Washington National Museum of Women in the US, is set for exhibition on Friday.
